I needed a small TV for my bedroom and this Sony delivered on all fronts. The picture quality is outstanding - crisp and vivid, without any of the artificial edge-enhancement on found on many analog televisions that I find so distracting. I went to a brick-and-mortar electronics retail chain to scout out small TVs, but kept coming back to the Sony because of the picture quality. It's certainly a fair deal more expensive than other TVs of similar size, but you do seem to get what you pay for.
Inputs are plentiful, including a component input on the back, which is surprising on such a small set. There's a channel labeling option so you can name your stations and a favorites button that lets you quickly surf to any of five preset channels, making channel surfing a breeze. Pushing and holding the channel up or down button will speed through channels in the direction of your choice. It's also pretty trivial to adjust picture and color temperature to your liking; the menus are easy to navigate, unlike a lot of other cheaper sets I tried out. Sound easily fills a small room, but of course isn't concert quality or anything.
Finally, the remote is nicely sized and idiot-proof. It'll take you all of a minute to get used to it. I'm not sure if this will matter to anyone, but the remote is wider at the bottom, which allows it to stand upright on a nightstand or desk. Styling is subjective, but I think the Sony looks pretty good compared to its competition. This is an inexpensive TV that doesn't look cheap. The only feature that's missing is auto closed-captioning when the TV is muted, but this isn't a deal breaker in my mind. Until all our signals are pristine, digital HDTV quality, we'll have to live with the analog signals we get. I'm happy to say that this TV handles the latter really, really well.
